Trip to Jackson, Mississippi Zoo

The kids had off this Monday and Tuesday for Mardi Gras (yes, Mardi Gras...it's a big deal down here.)  We took Grandma to the Jackson, Mississippi airport on Tuesday and decided since we were already there that we would take the kids to the Jackson Zoo.  Our zoo here in Monroe doesn't have any elephants and Hailey loves her elephants so she was really excited!   It was a beautiful day.  It started out a little cold, but ended up really nice.  The sun was shining and seeing that it was a Tuesday the zoo was pretty empty.

Here is a beautiful peacock that was walking around.  They were rooming around everywhere. There were at least 10 of them.
There were two of these white ones.  They were absolutely gorgeous animals.  I got lucky and she (or he) fanned out her feathers and she looked amazing!

This is a pygmy hippopotamus.  We called him Mini Moto Moto. (Madagascar 2)
Lindsey enjoying the animals.
Hailey, Johnny and Daddy.
This little monkey was just relaxing!
We spent lots of time with the elephants.  The zoo wasn't very big, but you got pretty close to the animals.  This elephant was putting on a show for us.  She was drinking water with her trunk and playing with the rocks.  She kept walking over to where Hailey was standing.  It was pretty neat.  She was picking up dirt with her trunk and throwing it on her back and then she was even eating some of it.

Here's a picture of the kids having fun walking through the zoo.
The giraffe is Lindsey's favorite animal.

The wall that was surrounding the giraffes was so low.  If the giraffes could figure it out I think they could have just walked over it.  This guy tried a couple times.
The zebra's are Johnny's favorite.
There were three of them and he named them Zoom, Zipper and Zeek!
The leapords were real close to where we ate.
The tigers were right next to them.  At one point one of them made a real loud roar.  It was pretty cool.   They are such beautiful animals.
Here are the orangatan's.  They weren't too active.
Alligators.
This was  a little bubble that the kids could look through.  I believe there were supposed to be prairie dogs or something in this display but it was empty.  I guess it was the kid display.
Daddy and Hailey sat on the bench for a long time and watched the elephants.
Taking a break.
Do you think Hailey liked the playground.  She thought it was great that she was sliding down the elephants trunk!

I told the kids they looked like monkeys playing in this web and Lindsey said they were "spider monkeys!"

After we left the zoo, Bob wanted to stop at Bass Pro Shops.  Wow!  What an amazing store.  It was huge.  It was two floors and it even had a restaurant and a Starbucks inside.
Bob and his Bear friend.
They had a shooting gallery in the store.  Here's Lindsey shooting at some targets.
Johnny's turn.
Hailey's turn.  The guns were so heavy that the kids could barely hold them.  They still had fun!
A friendly alligator!
Playing with the baby bears.
It was a fun day!
