Biedenharn Museum

Today we went to the Biedenharn Museum.  Mr. Joe Biedenharn was the first person to bottle Coca-Cola.  They have a Coca-Cola Museum and Store and the house that Emy-Lou Bidenharn grew up in.   She was Joe's daughter.  She had a beautiful garden outside.   Every month they have a craft for the children.  Today's craft was Faux Stones.  The kids had a lot of fun making them.  I forgot to take pictures while they were making them, but there are pictures at the end of them.  After we did the craft we went and checked out the museum and toured the house and garden.

Here is a picture of one of their first delivery trucks.  As you can see, it has a crank in the front to start it.

Here's the soda fountain.
These three things that look like viles are what a 2-liter, 20 oz. and an 8 oz. bottle look like before they are blown into their bigger size.
Here are some old coke bottles and cans and an old coke cooler.
Old coke machines.
More coke machines.
The kids and some more Coke.
They have machines outside where you can get 5 cent bottles of coke.
Enjoying their cokes.  (Johnny doesn't like pop.  Hopefully it will stay that way!)
Me enjoying a coke!
Yum.
Here is a beautiful green house with lots of pretty flowers and plants.
Here is some of the outside garden and some of the statues.
We couldn't believe that these flowers were in bloom.  It's warmer here, but not that warm.
Here is a beautiful picture of the fountain and a couple more statues.  The pictures don't do this place justice!  I can't wait to see this place in the spring and summer.
Here is Lindsey with her rocks.
It's hard to see put hers have purple running through them and one says Lindsey, one says hugs, one says "I want to be a princess" and the other has a star on it.
Here are Hailey's.
She did hers in red which is her favorite color.  Hers say kisses, Hailey, one has stars and the other one is a butterfly.
And Johnny's.
He started with yellow, but it didn't show up very well.  He decided to add blue, but they mixed together and made green. He made a snake, two with lizards, one that says Johnny, and one with a dragon fly.
They had a lot of fun.  I think we will go to the craft store and buy some of this clay and make some more.  I wanted to get pictures of the house, but when I tried to take some they told me that you can only take pictures outside.  I forgot to take a picture of the house itself from the outside.  Maybe next time.
Here is a a little more about the museum:

Welcome to the Biedenharn

Sharing. I think that is what we do best at the Biedenharn Museum & Gardens, and it dates many years before the institution was ever thought of. Mr. Joe Biedenharn developed an innovative, yet simple idea, taking Coca-Cola out of a fountain and putting it in a bottle so he could share the drink with customers who could not get into town to purchase Coke at his confectionary. Joe’s daughter Emy-Lou shared her God-given vocal talent with audiences in concert halls in the US and in Europe during an almost ten-year career.

Upon return to her beloved Monroe, she began to share her love of gardens, Bibles, classical music and much more as she created the Bible Museum, ELsong Gardens, and the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Foundation. The board and staff of the Biedenharn Foundation continue to celebrate this same kind of sharing through a charitable giving program and the many programs of the Biedenharn Museum & Gardens.

,

Sincerely,

Ralph E. Calhoun, Executive Director
