Frogmore Cotton Plantation-Girl Scout Field Trip

What a busy week we had.  This was our 3rd field trip of the week.  We went to the Frogmore Cotton Plantation.  It was a long, tiring day, but we had a great time.
Here we are checking out the cotton fields.  I have never seen cotton fields, so I thought this was really neat!!

The cotton fields were so beautiful!
They listened to music and got to play the tambourine

Johnny being silly!

Lindsey wanted to know what a Privy was.  You'll see that she figured out in a few more pictures!
The kids got to carry around the bag that they used to use when they picked the cotton.  I'm sure it got pretty heavy!!
Johnny in the field.

You had to be really careful when you picked the cotton because there were thorns.  I can't imagine trying to pick it fast.  I'm sure their hands were all cut up.

Had to stop for a photo!

The Schmidt's

Yes, she figured out what it was!!  : )

Learning how they cooked.

She was showing us how they spin the cotton into thread.

Time for lunch!

They all took a turn ringing the bell.

This is the modern cotton factory.

Here is one of the machines picking the cotton!
